Art, Music, Food, Fun & Community

Art Hop is another one of those things that makes me so incredibly happy to live in Port Huron.

For those unfamiliar with the semiannual event, the Art Hop page describes the event thusly:

Art Hop is a night of art, music food, fun and community. A mini-sidewalk festival inspired event, Art Hop brings the art enthusiasts, fun-seeking families and merrymakers together to support beautiful, historic Downtown Port Huron.

It’s a great night to get out and about, stopping at our favorite places downtown and visiting with the artists in each shop. Plus there are snacks at every stop along the way! (I am extremely snack motivated.)

The Spring Art Hop is happening this Friday, May 3rd, from 6 to 9 pm.

Naturally the Raven is involved! Our guest artist will be Jay A. De Foy.

This is a piece that he created especially for the Raven.

Beginning the night of Art Hop, we will be carrying prints of this piece that will be available for $10 each.

Raven Signing

I asked Jay all sorts of intrusive questions about his art, and this is what he had to say:

“I’ve been doing art since I was in middle school, but didn’t start working freelance until roughly 2013. My original aim was to be a sequential artist but in recent years I have been moving more towards game art and design. Hence the animal illustrations. These are actually going to be used for a game that I am creating and Kickstarting soon.”

I asked him about the style of the Raven painting; since it was a commission, I wasn’t sure if the anthropomorphic theme was limited to the raven, or if the other animals were also clothed.

There are more!

And they’re fantastic!

Otter DeFoy

“As far as artistic inspirations go, my comic roots lead me to names most commonly referenced; Jim Lee, David Finch, Michael Turner, etc. Classical art has also played a large part in art growth, with Caravaggio, Rembrandt, and Bierstadt being a few of my more recent inspirations. I’ve also had the privilege of growing up with a handful of incredibly talented artists namely my two best friends Jordan and Rick Johnson, who have always provided inspiration in one way or another.”

And of course you will have the opportunity to see some of his work in person this Friday evening!

If you have missed out on the Art Hops of years past, now is the time to remedy this.

See you all Friday night!
